Troubleshooting Fi EXHAUST Valves: Complete Steps to Get Them Working Again
Your Fi EXHAUST valve system is designed to give you control — until one day, the valves stop responding. Don’t worry. In this guide, we’ll take you step-by-step through the most common issues and how to resolve them quickly.
How Fi EXHAUST Valves Work
Your exhaust valves can be powered by either vacuum pressure or electric actuators. The solenoid valve, control box, and signal wiring all play a role in switching between modes. Getting them working properly requires checking the control module, power source, solenoid valve, and vacuum tubing depending whether your exhaust setup comes with electric or vacuum valves.
Steps to found out the problem:
- Start the engine
- Check the remote controller
- Check the control box
- Check the power supply installation
- Check the solenoid valve
- Check the vacuum tube
Step 1: Check the Remote Controller
First, check the light on your remote. If there’s no light when pressed, replace the battery.
Step 2: Check the Fi EXHAUST Control Box/Module
Press the remote and check if any light appears on the control box:
What do different lights on the module mean:
- Green light: Valves Open
- Green + Red: Auto mode with Valves Open
- Red light: Auto mode with Valves Closed
- No light: Valves closed (check power source or replace control box)
After turning the engine on for the first 10 to 20 seconds both green and red lights will be on. During this time the control box is reading all the data and searching for the bluetooth connection. When only the green light is on it means the control box is ready.

- 1. There is no light for the control box. First check if the power is on. Press the remote controller on and off. If the light is still not on, it means the control box is damaged and needs to be replaced.
- Control box light is on for the control box after turning power off. This means ACC power is connected wrongly. Please locate the correct ACC power inside the fuse box otherwise it can cause battery to drain or the car alarm to go off, especially for newer car models like BMW X5 M and X6 M.
- Control Box Lights are abnormally flashing. There’s been damage to the control box.
Step 3: Test the Fi EXHAUST Control Module/Box Signal
Use a digital multimeter or test light to check the signal wire:
- Toggle the remote between open and closed valve modes.
- Verify that the signal is transmitted and the module’s light indicator changes.
- If no signal is detected, the control module may need replacing.
Step 4: Check the Solenoid Valve
Listen for a clicking sound when toggling the remote:
- No click: There is no “clicking sound” after pressing the remote controller. First check whether the solenoid valve has been installed correctly. If the “clicking sound” still cannot be heard, it means the solenoid valve is damaged and needs to be replaced.
- Clicking but valves won’t open: Check the vacuum tube for leaks or obstructions.
Step 5: Inspect the Vacuum Tubes
Follow the vacuum tube path in the engine bay:
- Confirm the source of the vacuum tube in the engine room and makesure everything is connected properly.
- Look for pinches, kinks, or leaks. Replace damaged tubes as needed.
Step 6: Check Electric Factory Valve Actuators (If Equipped)
For selected models exhaust system with electric valves valves/flaps can be controlled by the factory system. To revert to factory control, unplug the Fi Pro EV valve wires from the factory actuators and reconnect the factory valve cable/connector.
- Remove the actuators from the exhaust valves.
- Start the car and check whether the actuators operate on both sides. The test is successful if both actuators are functioning properly. If either actuator fails to operate, it needs to be replaced.

Step 7: Check the exhaust valves / flaps
While the actuator is off, manually turn the valve to check for smooth movement.
If the actuators operate correctly when connected to the factory cable and the valves/flaps move smoothly by hand, then the issue likely lies with the spring and/or control module, which may need to be replaced.
