BMW G90 / G99 M5 Fi Exhaust System – Reclaim the Sound of M
The stock exhaust on the BWM G90 / G99 M5 filters out the character and emotion M drivers expect—leaving behind a tone that’s too tame for the badge it wears. Between two oversized resonators, OPF filters on European models, and artificial sound pumped through the speakers, the stock setup filters out the very essence of the M experience.
The Fi Exhaust Valvetronic System is engineered to bring that experience back—with raw sound, increased flow, and real driver engagement.
Real Sound, Real Control
With valves closed, the system delivers a refined 101 dB tone for comfortable cruising.
Open the valves, and the full M personality comes alive with a track-ready 122 dB roar.
During testing, we recorded a +34 dB increase over stock (Euro-spec, 88 dB valves open) using the following configuration:
• 200-cell catted primary downpipes
• Catless secondary downpipes
• Valvetronic catback exhaust with OPF bypass
Performance with Purpose
The catback exhaust system features a free-flowing X-pipe and a single-chamber muffler (vs. triple chambers in stock), improving exhaust gas scavenging and tone clarity. When installed as part of a full catless setup, average power gains of 5–10% can be expected—thanks to reduced backpressure and optimized flow.
Unleash the sound BMW engineered without unnecessary restrictions. The Fi Exhaust System for the G90 / G99 M5 is the upgrade your M deserves—raw, refined, and ready to roar.
Q: Can the exhaust valves be controlled using the OEM driving modes or do I need a remote control?
A: On Euro-spec vehicles, the factory exhaust includes electronic valves that are controlled through OEM driving modes (Efficient, Sport, Sport Plus) and the M Sound button. Fi EXHAUST Valvetronic exhaust seamlessly integrates with factory drives modes and M Sound button.
On U.S.-spec vehicles, however, the stock system lacks functional valves entirely. Unlike older M models like the F90, the G90’s OEM exhaust has no mechanical or electronic valve control. And M Sound button does not control the factory exhaust valves because they’re not present on U.S.-spec models. Instead, it affects ASD-generated sound and deceleration burbles.
That’s why with our valvetronic exhaust system, we include a standalone remote—giving you real, physical control over the exhaust valves. This lets you easily switch between a refined daily setup and a raw M-Performance profile, independent of BMW’s settings.
Q: What components are included in the complete Fi EXHAUST setup for the G90/G99 M5?
A: The complete system includes high-flow primary downpipes, catless secondary downpipes, and a valvetronic catback—engineered for maximum performance and aggressive sound.
Q: What is the difference between the Euro-spec and U.S.-spec G90 exhaust systems?
A: Euro-spec models feature OPF emission filters in the middle section of a catback and OEM / factory electronic valves. U.S.-spec models come without OPF emission filters and lack OEM exhaust valves.
Q: Is the aftermarket exhaust system compatible with both the G90 M5 sedan and the G99 M5 Touring?
A: Yes, our system is fully compatible with both the G90 Sedan and G99 Touring variants. It’s been engineered for perfect OEM fitment across both body styles.
Q: Which BMW M5 models are compatible with this Fi EXHAUST system?
A: Fi EXHAUST is compatible with both U.S spec and European spec BMW G90 / G99 M5 Saloon / Touring (OPF / Non-OPF) models.
Q: Is cutting required when installing a full catback exhaust system?
A: Not at all. Our Fi cat-back system is 100% bolt-on, designed to connect to factory points with no cutting or welding required. This makes installation clean and reversible.
Q: How does the M Sound button affect the G90’s sound profile?
A: When M Sound is activated, it enables deceleration burbles and adds artificial engine noise through the cabin speakers (ASD).
While this creates a livelier impression, many owners prefer turning it off to enjoy the cleaner, deeper tones produced by Fi EXHAUST.
Q: Does the factory U.S.-spec BMW G90 M5 exhaust have functioning valves?
A: No. Unlike prior M cars, the U.S.-spec G90 M5 has no active valves, and relies heavily on large resonators to suppress sound. The M Sound button has no effect on the actual exhaust flow—it only adjusts cabin sound via ASD.
Our solution? We provide a valvetronic exhaust with remote control, allowing true sound customization on U.S. models—something missing entirely from the factory system.
Q: What’s the benefit of upgrading to an Fi Exhaust performance exhaust system on the G90?
A: The Fi system completely transforms the G90’s sound and performance. It replaces the two oversized factory resonators with a free-flowing X-pipe, improving exhaust scavenging and creating a higher-pitched, more aggressive tone.
Instead of a bulky triple-chamber muffler like the OEM setup, Fi uses a single-chamber design that offers a sharper and purer exhaust note.
For Euro-spec models, our cat-back also removes the restrictive OPF filters, unlocking true sound and performance. In real-world tests, we saw a +34 dB gain in volume over stock on a Euro car—making a night-and-day difference in sound character.
Q: Is tuning necessary when replacing a catback exhaust? Will it cause a CEL (Check Engine Light)?
A: On Euro-spec G90 models, if you’re removing OPF filters with the catback, you’ll need ECU coding or a remap to prevent error codes and ensure smooth operation.
On U.S.-spec models, tuning is not required when installing a catback alone, since no emissions systems (like OPF or catalytic converters) are being removed.
If you plan to upgrade the downpipes, we recommend a Stage 2 tune, as you're replacing factory catalytic converters and the ECU must be adjusted to prevent a Check Engine Light (CEL) from being triggered?
